3DP 2220 - Fundamentals of 3D Modeling and Printing for Art and Industry (3)
Introduces students to the fundamental skills required to begin 3D design and printing using CAD (Computer Aided Design) software. Digital design terminology and techniques combined with an understanding of how 3D printers function will be delivered through a series of fundamental projects. Students are also introduced to contemporary discourses in sculpture involving digital fabrication as well as learning about these same practices for industry and how they are in dialogue with one another. Includes access to the 3D Printing Lab.
3DP 2225 - 3D Printing Lab (1)
Through project-based learning students apply 3D design and printing skills for applied experience with printers and other technologies offered in the lab. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: 3DP 2220.
3DP 2230 - Large Format Printing and Sustainable Materials for Art and Industry (3)
Utilizing sustainable materials like recycled plastics, concrete, and clay, this class will explore and experiment with eco-innovative approaches to large format design for sculpture and manufacturing. 3D scanning, scaling, and reverse engineering will also be taught. Includes access to the 3D Printing Lab. Prerequisites: 3DP 2220.
3DP 2240 - Contemporary Discourse of Design for 3D Printing(3)
This course takes up the question of 1) how do we contemporary digital design practices through a lens of human-centered thinking? And, 2) how do we further the dialogue between Art and Industry? Questioning, empathy, collaboration, and interactive workflow processes are applied to unique assignments with these questions in mind. Intermediate CAD (Computer Aided Design) skills will be taught. Includes access to the 3D Printing Lab. Prerequisite: 3DP 2220.
3DP 3320 - Constructive Disruption: Design Process and Workflow (3)
This course will exercise the problem-solving mindsets of sculptors and industrial designers to create constructive disruption in both of these fields. Applying the innovative concepts, designs, production workflows and communication skills learned in the other courses of this program, students will create unique projects that aim for innovation. Includes access to the 3D Printing Lab. Prerequisites: 3DP 2220.
3DP 3330 - Product Development and Assistive Design (3)
Product development will be taught and applied through practical and creative 3D printing projects. Students will learn intermediate solid modeling with an emphasis on assistive design. Includes access to the Virtual and Physical Lab Prerequisites: 3DP 2220.
3DP 4498 - 3D Design and Production Internship (3-6)
Students will identify or be partnered with a business or enterprise for internship to gain applied experience with the skill sets developed in 3D Printing. Includes access to the Virtual and Physical Lab. Prerequisites: 3DP 2220, 3DP 2230, 3DP 3320 and 3DP 3330 or permission of chair.
