Hands-On Experience
Whether studying abroad or in the classroom, you will get hands-on experience in TROY鈥檚
history education degree. In history internships and the archival methods and practices
course, you will be introduced to the history and social value of records and archives
and have the opportunity to apply your knowledge by working on projects in a museum
or at an archival repository. In your research and methodology course, you will learn
to master your writing and research skills. In the capstone senior seminar class,
you will complete a formal research paper that demonstrates proficiency in research,
writing and computer skills.
Preparing You for Success
Before graduating, you will have the opportunity to be a part of the Professional
Internship Program, which is the culminating clinical field-based experience for students
seeking certification in a teaching field. This program gives you the opportunity
to conduct classes and assume the role of a teacher while receiving supervision from
a classroom educator and a University supervisor for a semester. This experience will
give you all the expertise needed to start your career in secondary education.
Beyond the Classroom
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of high school teachers is
projected to grow 5 percent from 2021 to 2031. About 77,900 openings for high school
teachers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings
are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different
occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.
