A Closer Look at the Accounting and Finance Concentration

In this concentration, students will complete a combination of accounting and finance courses related to financial reporting, financial management, cost accounting and cost management in the global economy. This concentration will expose students to financial reporting issues faced by managers, including preparing, understanding and analyzing financial reports. Students will gain an understanding of the uses of financial data by financial analysts, credit analysts and other users of financial information. An advanced analysis of managerial finance concepts related to key financial decisions of the firm is included in the concentration topics.

Prepare for Success

The concentration provides students an opportunity to study an in depth analysis of advanced cost accounting issues from the viewpoint of management, including cost management systems, target costing, life cycle costing, and measures of performance. Finally, students will gain an understanding of financial analysis as it relates to investments, including markets, institutions, and instruments with emphasis on security analysis, portfolio analysis, and financial planning.

Dr. Courtney Baggett

Dr. Courtney Baggett

Dr. Courtney (Bass) Baggett, Director of the risk management and insurance program, is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics, Finance and Risk Management and Insurance. A 2012 graduate of TROY’s RMI program, Dr. Baggett was appointed director of the RMI program in August 2019. She earned her Ph.D. at Florida State University in 2016 and holds the CPCU, ASLI and ARM professional designations.
Dr. Ed Pappanastos

Dr. Ed Pappanastos

Dr. Ed Pappanastos, Professor of RMI and Associate Chair of the Department of Economics, Finance and Risk Management and Insurance, has been on the TROY faculty since 1997. Dr. Pappanastos received his Ph.D. in applied statistics from the University of Alabama. He has received recognition for teaching excellence, including TROY’s Ingalls Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching and the Wallace D. Malone, Jr. Distinguished Faculty Award.
